Old Town San Diego is a living museum for anyone interested in California history. The Community is a unique one that blends State and County Park areas with a thriving commercial district. This living museum provides both adult and youth visitors an unparalleled experience in the cultures, arts and everyday lives of the people who have called Old Town San Diego home.

Expanding Educational Outreach & Learning Opportunities

Through the Fiesta Cinco de Mayo, the Historic Old Town Community Foundation is working to create a legacy for the entire community. This legacy is one of educating our region’s youth in the areas of History, Social Studies, Diversity and Conflict Resolution using Historic Old Town San Diego as a backdrop.

Each year over 35,000 city and county public and private School students participate in a variety of hands-on day or week-long educational programs in Historic Old Town San Diego provided by three primary organizations:
     • Boosters of Old Town, California State Parks
     • San Diego Unified Schools, Old Town Program
     • Heritage Tours
These programs communicate San Diego’s rich history from Native American Tribal Life to the Foundations of California through Spanish, Mexican and American periods, and the Victorian Era.
