San Diego, CA ----- If you are looking for a place to celebrate the Fiesta Cinco de Mayo weekend, there is no better fit than Old Town, San Diego. 2003 marks 20 years of this free community celebration featuring great food, kids activities and top-notch entertainment.

Some highlights this year include:

Bazaar del Mundo Stage
Sounds from throughout Latin America can be heard in Bazaar del Mundo. From the Marimba to the sounds of the Andes and get-your-shoulders-moving Mariachi trumpets, the Bazaar del Mundo stage features non-stop entertainment beginning on Friday afternoon.

Wells Fargo Plaza Stage
Traditional entertainment featuring Mariachi's, Ballet Folklorico groups, Aztec Dancers, Mexican Hat Dance and crowd-pleasing Grito contest with Familia Rojas…try out rope tricks and join in the fun and as the audience decides "are you a charro or churro?"

Featured performers include:
Familia Rojas Charros, Mariachi Real de San Diego, Danza Oceolotl, Los Alacranes, Enedina Lammers, Tony Munoz and Mariachi Continental San Diego.

Prudential Financial Performance Arena
The re-enactment of the Battle of Puebla - Each year, the Southwest United States and
Mexico celebrate Cinco de Mayo in commemoration of the 1862 Battle of Puebla, during
which, out-numbered Mexican forces defeated the French Army, setting the stage for
Mexico's eventual triumph over France. The Old Town Fiesta is the only event in San Diego where the battle is recreated.

Escaramuzas Golondrinas - Beauty in motion, this female equestrian group performs all over California and travels to compete on an international level in Mexico City. This group is not to be missed.

Chevrolet Mercado Stage
This stage features Rock en Espanol, flamenco guitar, salsa, cumbia and Latin Jazz.

Performers include: Battista, Air Force Band "Fuerza Musical," Legion, Israel Maldonado Band, Los Ingratos, Bside Players, Onda Caliente, Sol de Alegria and Latin A Go Go.

Cuervo Stage
Featuring regional Bandas and Norteno Music - with groups up to 17 members. The dance
floor below the stage is always crowded with people young and old.

Performers include: Reveldes del Amor, Valor Norteno, Signo Musical, Cocodrilos del Norte,
Banda Paseo de Tecuala, Leyenda Musical, Liverado, Arranque Norteno, Banda Oro Verde,
Peligro Norteno, Andariego, Banda Polvora.

The Wells Fargo Old Town Fiesta Cinco de Mayo presented by Chevrolet takes place along San Diego Avenue May 2-4, 2003. Event hours are 5:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. Friday, 11:00a.m. to 7:00p.m. Saturday and noon to 6:00p.m. Sunday. Proceeds from the event benefit the Historic Old Town Community Foundation, which provides educational activities for San Diego's 4th grade students. Free and paid parking is available at the Fiesta.
