Fargo Old Town Fiesta Cinco de Mayo Presents a Weekend of
Historical, Traditional and Cultural Entertainment and Activities

San Diego, CA ----- The Wells Fargo Old Town Fiesta Cinco de Mayo
kicks off on Saturday, May 1 at 11:00a.m with 8 venues of entertainment,
featuring more than two hundred entertainers, a traditional Mercado
shopping and dining area and hands-on activities for children. 2008
marks 25 years of this free community celebration.
Event Highlights:
Bazaar
del Mundo Stage
The Bazaar del Mundo, a festive marketplace comes alive with sounds
and dance from across the Americas. Don’t miss the fancy rope
tricks of Tony Muñoz Charros or the high-energy dance group
Ballet Folklorico de Oceanside “Nanhuatzin.” There is
seating in front of the stage or you might want to come early and
find a seat at Casa de Pico where you can enjoy a delicious meal
and a great show!
Featured
performers include: Marcelo Aguayo and Enedina Lammers with Mariachi
Real, XoChitL, Imagen Azteca, Ballet Folklorico de Oceanside “Nanhuatzin”
and Hispanic Mexican Ballet
Wells Fargo Plaza Stage
Traditional Mexican entertainment can be found throughout the weekend
on the Wells Fargo Plaza Stage located in the Old Town State Historic
Park. On Saturday, put on your dancing shoes and enter the Mexican
Hat Dance contest or the Grito Contest with the Rojas Family Charros
and Mariachi Real de San Diego. Let the audience decide if you are
a “Charro or a Churro.” Winners go home with a toy Wells
Fargo Stagecoach.
Featured
performers include: Familia Rojas Charros, Alegria del Valle with
Mariachi Franco, Los Alacranes, Los Vientos del Sur and Danza Oceolotl
Seeley
Stables Performance Arena
Cheer along with the crowd during the Battle of Puebla reenactment.
Each year, the Southwest United States and Mexico celebrate Cinco
de Mayo in commemoration of the 1862 Battle of Puebla, during which,
out-numbered Mexican forces defeated the French Army, setting the
stage for Mexico’s eventual triumph over French imperialism.
More than 40 actors participate in the Battle reenactment. The Battle
re-enactment is performed twice daily at 12:30p.m. and 2:30p.m.
Capture
the spirit of wild Mexico. Seeley Stables roars with thunder as
the spectacular Escaramuzas Golondrinas female equestrian group
perform. Unlike any other show on horseback, these experienced riders
dressed in colorful costume move with grace and speed and are sure
to dazzle the audience. Accompanied by the festive sounds of Mariachi
Real de San Diego as well as the fancy rope tricks of Tony Munoz,
this is a show not to be missed, performed twice daily at 1:30p.m.
and 3:30p.m.
Jose
Cuervo Stage
San Diego Avenue heats up at the Jose Cuervo Stage. The dance floor
is always packed as the mix of Salsa, Banda, Cumbia, Norteño
and Sonido Tropical moves the crowd. This year, the Jose Cuervo
Stage welcomes national acts, Banda Maguey and Gustavo Rivera.

performers include: Fuerza Musical, - The Air Force Band of the
Golden Southwest, Sol de Alegria, Latin A Go Go, Barela and Misioneros
del Norte
Vignette
Stages 1,2,3
Four feet off the ground with room for 2-3 performers, the vignette
stages provide a skyline over the Fiesta. Vignette Stage 3 located
at San Diego Avenue and Harney Avenue features non-stop dancing,
bring a partner and stop by.

to Dance, A Gift of Dance and Will Sumnar
Pueblo
de los Niños
Children of all ages can stop by to create rubbings of famous Old
Town landmarks. Activities are provided by the Children’s
Museum of San Diego/Museo de los niños and the Historic Old
Town Community Foundation. Event goers can participate in an opportunity
drawing for a chance to win one of two children’s bicycles
and helmets provided by Blue Cross Healthy Families.
Old
Town Theatre
Farmers Insurance presents at the Old Town Theatre The Bronze Screen:
100 Years of Latinos in Hollywood on Saturday 11:00a.m. and 12:45p.m.
and Sunday at 10:00a.m. Free entry passes are available at the Farmers
Insurance booth located on the South end of San Diego Avenue.
Wells
Fargo Stagecoach
Take a step back in time and visit the Wells Fargo History Museum
in the State Park, then take a free ride on a real Wells Fargo Stagecoach
from noon to 3:00p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
The
Wells Fargo Old Town Fiesta Cinco de Mayo takes place along San
Diego Avenue May 3rd-4th, 2008. Event hours are 11:00a.m. – 9:00p.m.
Saturday and 10:00a.m. – 5:00p.m. Sunday. Proceeds from the
event benefit The Historic Old Town Community Foundation (HOTCF)
“Celebrate San Diego” program which supports county-wide
educational outreach including the Old Town 4th Grade Program administered
by San Diego Unified Schools.
